HORSE RIDING – WINELANDS

Enjoy horse riding trails through the Franschhoek Winelands near Cape Town. There are 1-hour, 2-hour, and 4-hour rides, and special wine-tasting trails. Trails are led by experienced and qualified guides.

The rides begin on a beautiful Wine Estate nestled in the foothills of the Simonsberg in South Africa’s most celebrated Franschhoek wine valley. Riders are treated to spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

The horses are a variety of crossbreeds that suit our terrain as well as the different levels of riders that they come into contact with. They are schooled, well-tempered animals that are very much part of the family here. They are South African Boerperds, Friesian, Thoroughbred, and Warmblood type crosses and suit almost everybody, from the total beginner to the advanced rider.

Please specify your weight and riding experience so that we can assign the correct horse to you! Maximum Weight 95kg.

1 HOUR HORSE TRAIL

The hourly rides depart from a Wine Farm in Franschhoek. These rides are specially designed for the less experienced or for those with time constraints. Taken at a leisurely pace, according to the capabilities of the riders, the trail will showcase the breathtaking view of the valleys and mountain ranges. Wine farming activities and grape cultivars can be pointed out and explained by our well-trained guides as we descend down the valley through the vineyards.

2 HOUR HORSE TRAIL

The hourly rides depart from a Wine Farm in Franschhoek. Taken at a leisurely pace, according to the capabilities of the riders, the trail will showcase the breathtaking view of the valley with the Mountain range as a backdrop. Wine farming activities and grape cultivars can be pointed out and explained by our well-trained guides as we descend down the valley through the vineyards. After exploring the farm and vineyards, this trail heads out into the lower reaches of the mountain for a closer look at the beautiful fynbos and bird life.

HALF-DAY HORSE TRAIL WITH WINE TASTING

A little more time and energy is well spent on this half-day ride (3-4 hours).
The horse riding trail depart from a Wine Farm in Franschhoek. This is a unique way to explore the area, this adventurous trail takes you through the working farm and vineyards, climbing up into the mountainous area ending up at our spectacular viewpoint. From there we make our way back down for wine tasting at an acclaimed Wine Estate. Wine farming activities and grape cultivars can be pointed out and explained by our well-trained guides as we descend down the valley through the vineyards. Wine tasting is strictly for persons over 18.

FULL-DAY HORSE TRAIL WITH 2 X WINE TASTINGS

This trail is perfect for the adventurous spirit! The full day wine tour is truly the ultimate way to experience the magnificent Cape Winelands Wine Route. Ride through some of the most scenic countryside and high into the mountains traversing through various Wine Estates and nature reserves. This is like no other as you get to ride privately deep into these beautiful farms not normally open to the public. Wine tasting is strictly for persons over 18.

You need to arrive at least 30min before your booking for the briefing and helmet fitting to avoid going into your booked time slot. Should you arrive late, you will forfeit some of your riding time or your trip altogether. It is very difficult to hold your slot for you as we have other bookings running.  Please note that everyone must sign indemnity forms individually. Should participants be under 18, they will need to be signed in by their legal guardian.
