Just 45 km from Johannesburg’s northern suburbs, this unforgettable adventure begins before sunrise with tea, coffee, and biscuits at the clubhouse pavilion. After take-off, you’ll float peacefully for approximately one hour, taking in panoramic views of valleys, mountains, and rolling farmland. On landing, enjoy a celebratory glass of sparkling wine while the crew packs up the balloon, before indulging in a full champagne breakfast at the clubhouse restaurant. Each guest also receives a “Citation for Bravery” certificate as a keepsake.

Important Information

  • Meeting Time: Always before sunrise (exact time confirmed on booking)
  • Participants must climb in/out of a 1.35m high basket unaided, stand for 1 hour, and be able to jump down 60cm unassisted
  • Pregnant passengers may not participate
  • Minimum 4 passengers required (separate bookings can be combined)
  • Children: minimum 7 years old & 1.3m tall (measured at check-in)

Weather & Cancellations

Hot air ballooning is 100% weather dependent and flights may be cancelled due to wind or rain. We aim to confirm or cancel by 16:00 the day before, but conditions can change overnight, and you or may be contacted early morning to avoid unnecessary travel.

  • If the operator cancels: you may reschedule, receive a 6-month voucher, or request a refund (less 20% admin fee).
  • If you cancel, change your mind, or don’t show up: tickets are forfeited (100% cancellation fee).
  • To increase your chances of flying, book early in your stay to allow a backup day.
  • Please note we are not liable for accommodation reservations made in anticipation of the flight.
  • If guest misses the flight, or child does not meet requirements: ticket is forfeited without refund.

What time does the flight start?

Flights take place at sunrise, when conditions are calmest. Exact meeting times are confirmed at booking.

What’s included?

What should I wear?

Dress in comfortable outdoor clothing and closed shoes. Mornings can be chilly, so bring a jacket or layers.

Are children allowed?

Yes - children must be 7 years or older and at least 1.3m tall. Heights are measured at check-in.

Is transport included?

No. Guests must self-drive to the Magalies launch site (directions provided on booking).

What happens if the weather is bad?

Flights are weather dependent. If unsafe, the operator will postpone or offer a refund (less admin fee).
