Join us daily at dawn for a Meerkat Safari at Buffelsdrift near Oudtshoorn and see wild habituated meerkats emerging from their burrows to soak up the sun before starting their daily activities. Meerkats, part of the mongoose family, are small, sociable mammals known for their upright stance and complex social behaviour.

Your Meerkat Safari begins in the Lookout Lounge at Buffelsdrift near Oudtshoorn, with a warm cup of coffee and rusks, while a trained ranger briefs you on what to expect. From there, hop aboard a safari vehicle and journey into the heart of the Karoo landscape. Along the route to the meerkat burrows, there’s a chance to spot resident wildlife like buffalo and hippos roaming the reserve. Once you arrive, remain comfortably seated in the vehicle while the meerkats emerge with the rising sun. Your guide will share fascinating insights into their social dynamics and survival strategies, making this more than just a sighting—it’s a window into their world!

Please note that meerkats prefer clear, sunny mornings, so the safari may be delayed or cancelled in poor weather conditions such as rain or cold overcast skies.
