CHIMP EDEN – NELSPRUIT

Visit the Jane Goodall Institute South Africa Chimp Eden located outside of Nelspruit and meet the rescued chimpanzees on a guided tour. Learn about the individual chimps, experience feeding time, and watch these playful primates interact in a forested sanctuary.

Chimp Eden is the first and only chimpanzee sanctuary in South Africa. This sanctuary is for chimpanzees that have been displaced from their habitat and are in need of refuge. On the tour learn about the rescued chimpanzees that have survived the bushmeat trade, been orphaned, traded in the illegal pet market, or used for entertainment.

Visitors have a unique opportunity to see chimpanzees in semi-wild surroundings that are close to their natural habitat. Watch the chimps display normal social interaction and behavioral patterns. These enclosures also have viewpoints overlooking the forest and ‘foraging areas’. Providing the chimps with endless hours of fun is essential for keeping boredom at bay. 

Please note that there is no interaction with the chimpanzees. Tours are weather dependent.
