The Sunset Safari in the exclusive Sabie Game Reserve offers an unforgettable late-afternoon game drive through one of the richest wildlife areas in the Greater Kruger. Experience the magic of the African bush as the heat of the day softens and the wildlife begins to stir. As the golden light deepens toward dusk, predators become active, plains game gather near water sources, and the landscape transforms into a photographer’s dream. Your experienced ranger will guide you through prime wildlife habitats while sharing expert knowledge about the animals, the reserve, and its ecosystem.
Midway through your safari, enjoy a relaxing sundowner stop in the bush. This is a perfect moment to unwind, take photos, and soak in the tranquil beauty of the fading Lowveld light.

Important Information
- Because this is an exclusive, access-controlled reserve, no walk-ins are allowed. All safaris must be pre-booked.
- Availability: Bookings open only 1 month in advance as Lodge overnight guests receive priority; day visitor bookings depend on availability. Contact us early to join the waitlist.
- What to Bring: ID/passport for entry, light jacket, hat, sunscreen, camera, and closed shoes.
- Minimum Age: 5 years old.
- This activity goes out in all weather.
- Please note that children under 12 years must be accompanied by 2 adults.
- Please note that this activity does not offer refunds; a 100% cancellation fee applies.
Access, Logistics & Road Conditions
- Self-drive or pre-arranged transfers available (additional cost).
- Gate Entry Fee from 1 Dec 2025: R345 per vehicle per entry (payable directly at Shaw’s Gate; card only).
- Arrival Time: Please note that arrival at the gate will need to be by the latest 15h00pm. Safari departs the lodge at 16h00 (winter)/ 16h30 (summer).
- Travel Time: It is a 25-minute drive from Shaw’s Gate to the lodge.
- After the safari, you may not self-drive in the reserve; you must head toward the gate immediately and exit.
- Dirt Road: Please allow extra travel time, especially during the rainy season.
- In heavy rain, a larger vehicle or transfer is recommended.
- Please adhere to the speed limit. This is a private reserve, and wildlife may be on the road.
- Late arrivals = No-show. Safaris depart strictly on schedule and cannot wait.
- Once your booking is paid and confirmed, we will require: the Driver’s full name and Vehicle registration number to secure your access at the gate.

Is the Sunset Safari suitable for children?
Yes, children aged 5+ are welcome. Children under 12 must be accompanied by two adults.
Do I need to pre-book the sunset safari?
Yes. Sabie Game Reserve is an exclusive, access-controlled reserve. Bookings open only 30 days prior due to lodge guest priority, and no walk-ins are permitted.
Do I pay the gate entry fee separately?
Yes. The Sabie Game Reserve entry fee is R345 per vehicle per entry (from 1 Dec 2025), payable directly at Shaw’s Gate via card.
Can I self-drive to the reserve?
Yes, but the road is a dirt road. Extra travel time is required, especially after rain. Transfers can be arranged at an additional fee.
What happens if I arrive late?
Late arrivals are treated as a no-show with no refund. Safari vehicles run on a strict schedule and cannot wait.
