SCOOTOURS – SABIE/LONG TOM PASS

Discover the beauty of Mpumalanga’s highlands on a 5 km gravity-powered downhill scooter ride through the breathtaking terrain of Misty Mountain along the iconic Long Tom Pass. Your adventure begins with a short trip in an open vehicle to the starting point, perched at an altitude of 1,765 metres. From there, you’ll descend approximately 250 metres on a specially designed Swiss-made off-road scooter, following a scenic single track through open grasslands, indigenous forests, and pine plantations.

The scooters are non-motorised, completely silent, and eco-friendly – the same type used in the Swiss Alps on ski slopes during the summer months. They’re stable, easy to ride, and designed for all skill levels. If you can ride a bicycle, you can ride a Scootour.

This is an experience for all ages: perfect for families, couples, and groups. Children aged 4–9 years can ride as passengers with an adult (combined weight limit 120 kg), making it a shared adventure everyone can enjoy.

What is a Scootour?

A Scootour is a downhill ride on a specially designed off-road scooter with large tires for stability and comfort. It’s powered by gravity, not a motor, making it quiet, eco-friendly, and easy to control.

Is there a minimum age for Scootours?

Yes — riders must be at least 10 years old to go solo. Children aged 4–9 years can ride as passengers with an adult, as long as the combined weight does not exceed 120 kg.

How difficult is the Scootour ride?

It’s generally easy and suitable for all fitness levels. If you can ride a bicycle, you can ride a Scootour.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing and closed shoes. Bring a light jacket if it’s cool and sunscreen for sunny days.
