Experience shark cage diving in Simon’s Town, the closest and most convenient shark diving location to Cape Town, just 45–55 minutes from the city. Departing from a working naval harbour in False Bay, this half-day experience offers a unique opportunity to encounter sharks in their natural environment with a licensed and experienced crew.

This experience focuses on encounters with bronze whaler (copper) sharks and sevengill cow sharks, two species commonly found in these waters. Depending on the season and conditions, you may also see dolphins, whales, seals, and abundant seabird life.

This tour operates with a strong focus on education, conservation, and small-group experiences, offering a more personal and respectful approach to shark encounters. No diving experience is required, as the standard experience is breath-hold cage diving, with the option to upgrade to SCUBA on request (with prior notice given).

  • Weather/Sea dependent: Trips can be confirmed, delayed or cancelled at short notice for safety. If cancelled, you’ll be offered the next available date.
  • Arrival: Be at the meeting point 30 minutes before your booked time. Boats don’t wait and late arrival is treated as a no-show.
  • Health & comfort: If prone to motion sickness, take tablets in advance (not supplied on site). Avoid heavy/fatty breakfasts and alcohol the night before.
  • What to bring: Swimwear under clothes, warm/windproof layer, flat shoes, hat/sunscreen, sunglasses, camera.
  • Seasickness: Recommended to take preventative medication if prone
  • Sightings: Nature is unpredictable; sightings are not guaranteed.
  • Group size: Maximum 12 guests per trip.

Do I need to be a certified diver?

No. Breath-hold cage diving is standard and suitable for all beginners. SCUBA diving can be arranged on request.

No. Sharks are wild animals and sightings depend on natural conditions, although crews choose locations to maximise encounters.

Will I get seasick?

Some guests may experience seasickness. It is recommended to take motion sickness tablets before arrival if you are prone.
