Jane Goodall Institute – Chimpanzee Eden

Start your day at Chimp Eden, South Africa’s first and only chimpanzee sanctuary. This world-renowned sanctuary rescues chimpanzees displaced from their natural habitats and gives them a safe, enriched environment to live in. On your guided visit, you’ll have the rare opportunity to view chimps in semi-wild enclosures, observe their fascinating social interactions, and learn about their individual rescue stories. Viewing decks overlook forest and foraging areas where the chimps play, climb, and forage—free from human interference.

Lunch Stop

After your chimp experience, enjoy a light lunch at a local restaurant before heading to the botanical gardens.

Lowveld Botanical Gardens

Spend the afternoon exploring the Lowveld National Botanical Gardens, one of South Africa’s nine National Botanical Gardens. Highlights of the gardens include:

• One of the largest collections of South African trees
• Over 200 bird species are drawn by the natural vegetation
• Stunning waterfalls formed where two rivers meet
• Shaded walking trails with viewpoints

It’s the perfect place to relax, photograph, and connect with the natural beauty of Mpumalanga.

Highlights include:

• Guided visit to Chimpanzee Eden – Jane Goodall Institute sanctuary
• Learn about chimpanzee conservation and rehabilitation
• Explore the Lowveld National Botanical Gardens and see its waterfalls, trees, and birdlife

Duration: Full day – approx. 7:00 am to 5:30 pm
Inclusions: Entrance fees to Chimp Eden and Botanical Gardens, Guided tour at Chimp Eden, and a light lunch. 
Exclusions: Drinks and Items of personal nature.

Collection/Drop off:

Our pickup points include our office at Perry’s Bridge Trading Post & Tourism Centre in Hazyview. We also collect from Sabi River Sun Resort, Kruger Park Lodge, Hazyview Sun, Hippo Hollow, Numbi Hotel, and most lodges in the Hazyview central area. For collection outside of our pickup range, an additional charge may apply.

How long does the tour last?

From 7:00–8:00 am until around 5:30 pm, including travel, lunch, and both attractions.

What should I bring?

Comfortable walking shoes, a camera, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a water bottle.

Where does the tour depart from?

From Perry’s Bridge in Hazyview and select local lodges. Pickup outside the standard area can be arranged at an extra cost.
